Two city venues told to improve food safety

A PLYMOUTH pub and a waterfront eatery have both been told to make urgent improvements, after being given the lowest possible food hygiene rating.

The Brook Inn, in Plympton, and Jolly Jacks, at Mayflower Marina, were each given a 0-star rating by inspectors from Plymouth City Council.

The Brook Inn was visited by an environmental health officer on December 13 last year and a full inspection of the premises was carried out. It was found that major improvement was necessary when it comes to the pub’s hygienic handling of food, including its preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling and storage.

The inspector also found that major improvement was necessary with regards to the cleanliness and condition of its facilities and the building, while urgent improvement was deemed necessary when it comes to the pub’s management of food safety.

According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), this means that The Brook Inn needs to ensure it has “system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future”. The Brook Inn has been contacted for comment.
