A PLYMOUTH resident who was part of bombing missions over Nazi Germany during World War Two has been presented with a medal from the Netherlands, after the original was lost in a house move.
Ivor Foster, now 98, is one of the last surviving crew members of Britain’s famous Lancaster bombers, in which he completed 16 combat miss ions as a mid-upper gunner.
Mr Foster’s service saw him honoured with a ‘Thank you Liberators’ medal from the Netherlands – which was lost in his move into a care home in Hooe.
He has now been presented with a replacement from the Lord Mayor of Plymouth Cllr Mark Shayer, who visited him alongside several representatives of the Royal Air Force and Warrant Officer Steve Harvey, from Devonport Naval Base.
The new medal was obtained from the current Netherlands ambassador, Karel Van Oosterom, and was handed over to Mr Foster at The Retreat care home.
