
WAYNE Rooney will need to start fast when he takes over the reins at Plymouth Argyle if he is to win over sceptical sections of the Green Army and start to repair his managerial reputation after a "disaster" spell at Birmingham City last season.
The warning comes from former Chelsea star Andy Townsend, who admitted that he was surprised at the appointment coming so soon after Rooney's experience at the Blues.
Argyle, who endured a tough season last time around and only guaranteed their Championship status with a last-day win, stated that the former England captain, who has signed a three-year contract at Home Park,, "stood out" in a pool of "highly experienced" candidates.
