PLANS for a new adult social care facility in Plymouth have been welcomed, but those who rely on such facilities say it is long overdue.
The centre on Outland Road will bring together day care services and respite accommodation together in one location for the first time. The plan has been on the cards for several years, and the new centre will replace facilities which have become outdated in Whitleigh and Estover.
A planning application will be submitted for the former council depot site in the autumn, but if it gets the goahead it could be two years before it finally opens. Around 45 people with a wide range of learning disabilities and complex needs will be catered for each day. It will also have 12 en-suite bedrooms and six self-contained apartments with their own courtyard gardens for short respite breaks.
