THE ongoing checking of documents of migrant labourers in Meghalaya by some "pressure groups" has taken a toll on the hotel industry, particularly in the state capital Shillong.
The pressure groups are worried about the influx of illegal immigrants to the state. Even as an anti-immigrant sentiment was brewing, tourists from different parts of the country had a harrowing time in the state on Friday when the members of a pressure group, Hynniewtrep National Youth Front, prevented the movement of Assam-registered tourist vehicles to tourist sites and checked the documents of the travellers.
