According to government sources, American Michelle Theresa Dvorak and British Fav Jane Manners embarked on a climbing expedition to Chaukhamba peak from Delhi on September 11.
"We received information through the Indian Mountaineering Federation that the two women foreigners are stranded at an altitude of 6,015 metres on Chaukhamba-III peak (6,995 metres)," a district administration official said.
The stranded mountaineers sent a distress signal via pager to their respective embassies on Thursday. "We are stuck, and our equipment, including food and essential climbing gear, has fallen into the deep gorge," they alerted.
