Transferring to itself a habeas corpus petition of a man alleging that his two daughters were held captive inside the premises of the yoga centre, a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud directed the Tamil Nadu police to not take any further action. "You can't let in the Army or the police into an establishment like this," the bench observed during the hearing.
"The case shall be transferred to the Supreme Court from the Madras High Court. Let the original petitioner appear on virtual platform or through his counsel.
The status report of the police shall be submitted to the Supreme Court," the top court said in its order.
