Pant-astic return to Test cricket
The Morning Standard|September 22, 2024
A SUBLIME century by Shubman Gill (119 not out) and a hard-hitting 109 by Rishabh Pant helped India set a mammoth target of 515 runs for Bangladesh on the third day of the opening Test at Chepauk here on Saturday.

The pair added 167 off 217 balls for the fourth wicket, laying a strong platform for India to secure a victory in the process. In reply, Bangladesh were 158 for 4 in 37.2 overs in their second innings when play was called off due to bad light.

The visitors displayed plenty of intent in their second essay. Openers Zakir Hasan (33 off 47 balls) and Shadman Islam (35 off 68 balls) played a positive brand of cricket. But skipper najmul Hossain Shanto stood tall to offer solid resistance, scoring an unbeaten 51 off 60 balls.
