A Meghalaya minister's statement that the state government will consecrate the Captain Williamson Sangma State University on January 13 by following Christian rituals has stoked a debate.
It is Meghalaya's first state university and Captain Williamson Sangma is the first chief minister of the state.
Justifying the move, education minister Rakkam A Sangma recently said the new Parliament in Delhi was also consecrated by following Hindu rituals.
