BJP MLA from Sikti Vijay Kumar Mandal blamed the unholy nexus between contractor and officials of rural works department for the incident and demanded a thorough investigation.
Built at a cost of ~12 crore, the bridge was being completed for its inauguration. A video capturing the incident went viral on social media. MLA Mandal said the 100-metre bridge collapsed near Pakadiya ghat.
The viral video shows three pillars of the bridge collapsing and submerging in the water.
However, the remaining eight pillars were stated to be intact without any damage.
