PM tears into 'negative approach' of Oppn

ON the first day of the monsoon session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the Opposition parties for their "negative approach" and said they repeatedly muzzled the government's voice.

He was addressing the media ahead of the budget session on Monday. "Due to negative approach of some political parties, many Parliamentarians could not get the opportunity to put forward their views and the issues about their constituencies," he said.

Reminding the people how efforts were made earlier to silence the elected government and PM's speech in Parliament, Modi asserted, "The muzzling of the elected government and its prime minister has no place in democratic traditions".

He emphasised that this House (Parliament) is not meant for political parties. "It is not meant to serve the Parliamentarians but 140 crore citizens of India", he added.

Even earlier, at NITI Aayog's governing council meeting on June 15, 2019, the PM had appealed to the states to recognise their core competence and work towards making India a $5-trillion economy.
