For the women's cricket team, the journey has been more of heartbreaks, as it failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the T20 World Cup, besides losing the Asia Cup. The team managed a few series wins at home and also a Test victory, but their overseas record has been a forgettable one, that ended with the latest hammering from Australia in the three-match ODI series Down Under.
With the women's ODI World Cup scheduled to take place next year, Harmanpreet Kaur & Co will be expected to pull up their socks to counter the challenge from the Aussies, who have once again displayed their might in big-ticket competitions.
T20 World Cup triumph
Six months after the ODI World Cup final heartbreak on November 19, 2023 in Ahmedabad, Rohit Sharma & Co gave Indian fans the biggest gift in a decade when they clinched the ICC T20 World Cup in the Americas in June. Under the guidance of head coach Rahul Dravid, the team finally managed to end the ICC title drought that has evaded them ever since the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy win. Rohit led from the front, ending the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer, while pacers Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah topped the wicket-takers' chart.
