ENGLAND’S Lionesses could end decades of hurt today by doing what the men have failed to achieve – winning an international football tournament for the first time since 1966.
And just like that historic day when Bobby Moore and his teammates lifted the Jules Rimet trophy, it is the Germans who stand in the way.
Captain Leah Williamson will lead out her team in front of a capacity crowd of 87,200 at Wembley – the biggest attendance ever for a men’s or women’s Euro final.
Ahead of the key match, Leah branded it “a bit of a fairytale fixture”.
“England versus Germany – the history behind that is incredible,” she said. “We’re ready, and we plan to enjoy it.
“Looking back on the tournament, I couldn’t be more proud to be in this England team and to be English and to stand alongside the girls.”
Up to 20 million TV viewers are expected to watch the game in their homes, pubs, and fan zones, giving the economy an estimated £138million boost.
