Canada lets int’l students work add’l hours till Dec ’23

In an effort to address the growing problem of labor shortage, the Canadian government has decided to allow international students in the country to work off-campus for an unrestricted number of hours from November 15.

This relaxation, announced on Friday by Canada’s immigration minister Sean Fraser, is temporary and will end on December 31, 2023.

Currently, international students can work off-campus only for 20 hours per week while classes are in session. This restriction has often forced the students to work in entry-level or low-paying jobs, or work on the sly, which is illegal and runs the risk of being deported.
