Metro services are mostly used by the middle class and poor. It will be hard on them if the fares are increased. So, it's not justifiable to hike the fare. There is every possibility that Metro will lose out passengers to MMTS & RTC. If it is essential to raise the fares then it must be reasonable, say about Rs 10 to Rs 20. Metro should concentrate on other income sources like leasing space for commercial advertising to mitigate losses. — Dr M S Krishna Kumar
Everyone is aware of the situation of public transport in Hyderabad. Road accidents are common and during the rainy season, we all get stuck on flooded roads. Even in those scenarios, the metro rail is the only saviour. For Hyderabad, we need metro rail as it is not only a safe mode of transportation but also green as it runs on electricity. It suits my needs fully. While I wish the fare is not increased, I would be ok if there is a marginal hike. I know Metro is struggling financially and this is the case with all public transport. I think the government should pitch in and help.—Jagadiswar Rao
Hyderabad metro has not hiked its prices since its inception. The fare increase may help the metro to buy new coaches which will help the public as it would reduce the crowd in the trains. Further, an increase in more advertisement spaces will definitely help the Metro authorities to increase their revenue which will reduce their losses.—Akhilesh Washikar
