The resolution, which is being introduced by the US and Albania, calls for not acknowledging the outcome of the referendums which, the West believes, will be used as a pretext by Russia to annex Ukrainian territory. Condemning Russia's actions, the resolution also seeks complete withdrawal of its forces from Ukraine. What India does if the resolution is put to vote will be keenly watched by the West.
US diplomats are said to be in touch with their counterparts from both India and China to garner support for the resolution. Russia of course is expected to veto the resolution.
