Hyderabad: Only 230 lakes of 3,740 lakes in HMDA area are finally notified and many other lakes are still stuck with preliminary notification. Telangana irrigation department has informed the National Green Tribunal that a survey is yet to be done for 607 lakes.
The lakes that fall in HMDA jurisdiction are in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajgiri, Medak, Sangareddy, Siddipet and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri districts.
The irrigation department said that 2,318 lakes are preliminary notified. Survey of 3,133 lakes has been completed so far. The affidavit was filed in the NGT in connection with indiscriminate encroachment of tanks and ponds in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and other municipalities.
