FRUSTRATION & ANGER: Right-wing activists protest against the murder of BJP worker Praveen Nettaru, at Town Hall in Bengaluru

Mangaluru/Bengaluru: As BJP workers continued to resign and protest across Karnataka over lack of protection for Hindu activists, the Dakshina Kannada police on Thursday arrested two men in connection with the murder of party’s youth wing worker Praveen Nettaru. SP Rishikesh Sonawane identified the two arrested suspects as Zakir (29) from Savanoor and Shafiq (27) from Bellare. Nettaru (32) was hacked to death by unidentified motorbike-borne assailants in Bellare on Tuesday night. Both the arrested are said to be members of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and Popular Front of India (PFI). Police said they’re yet to establish the motive.

ADGP (law & order) Alok Kumar, who is overseeing the investigation, said 21 people from various organisations have been detained and are being interrogated. “We’ll proceed with legal action if we find evidence. Some detained people include members of SDPI and PFI. We conducted investigation into all the suspects. We’ll record their statements and release them if they’re not involved,” he said.
