In recent months, there have been multiple advancements in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) that have got the technology world abuzz. And some of them are already beginning to capture popular imagination.
The first is the text-to-image AI systems announced recently by OpenAI, called DALL-E 2, and Google, called Imagen. These AI systems can create a completely unique image from a line of text. And the images being generated are nothing short of surreal, often mind-blowing. Write a sentence like, “A small cactus wearing a straw hat and neon sunglasses in the Sahara Desert,” and you’ll get just that image (see photo).
Another big development is around Alphabet-owned AI firm DeepMind’s general AI model called Gato. Most AI systems are trained to execute one task, and that’s called narrow AI. Gato on the other hand can do over 600 tasks, including play video games, move robotic arms, and caption images.
