Pent-up demand apart, this time around January 1 falls on a Sunday, which also happens to be the most popular day of the week to board flights. While people start leaving for their year-end holiday from say December 23 onwards, which is when most schools shut down, a majority of them would want to fly back on January 1 to be back in office, school on Monday. “If you haven’t booked your year-end domestic air tickets yet and if your work schedule permits you to fly back later, then book a return on January 2 or 3 and save a neat 20-25%,” said an official with a low-cost carrier.
