Mumbai: The police have tweaked their approach to tackle increasing instances of cybercrime. In many cases, officers are now focusing on halting the transfer of stolen amounts so that they could be reverted to complainants rather than ending up with fraudsters.
The usual modus operandi of criminals is to bait unsuspecting account holders on the pretext of either correcting electricity bills online, repairing air coolers, and making cryptocurrency investments. Investigators say that the sooner a victim approaches the police after facing fraud, the easier it becomes to block the amount.
