Mumbai: Tim David must be the most popular man in Bangalore at the moment. Cheered on by a packed crowd which included many Mumbai Indians fans and supporters of screaming RCB fans, David blasted a match-winning 11-ball 34, which included four huge sixes and two fours, to pull off a thrilling five-wicket win for MI over the Delhi Capitals. The win sent RCB into the IPL playoffs at Delhi’s expense.
Pant misses crucial review
DC, who needed a win to go through, were left heartbroken and rueing a massive missed opportunity to get Singaporean David off the first ball he faced, when their captain Rishabh Pant refused to review a nick behind the stumps off Shardul Thakur.
In 2018, it was DC who had denied MI a playoff qualification. On Saturday, MI returned the favour. At 95/3 in the 15th over, MI looked to be heading for another defeat before David added 50 for the fourth wicket in just 20 balls with Tilak Varma.
