Chinese envoy: Military strife caused by Galwan has ended

New Delhi: Even as the disengagement process in eastern Ladakh remains incomplete, China has claimed the phase of “emergency response” that started with the Galwan clash in June 2022 had “basically” come to an end, and that the border situation is now switching to “normalised management and control”.

Speaking on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Chinese ambassador Sun Weidong also said China-India relations have made new progress and shown positive momentum this year. The claim comes in the middle of fresh tensions over China thrice this year blocking UN sanctions on Pakistan based commanders of UN proscribed terror groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-eMohammed. Beijing has been unable to explain to India why it continues to shield these terrorists and foreign minister S Jaishankar slammed China last week in his UNGA address for its “double standards” on the issue of terrorism.
