DDK Mumbai, or Sahyadri as it is now called, had launched its broadcast October 2, 1972. Its 1,000 ft tall TV tower was a beacon of light in a time when television was a meaningful experience.
The channel helped launch the careers of Farooque Shaikh (Yuvadarshan), Deepti Naval, and Smita Patil, who was a Marathi newsreader when she was selected for cinema. Dilip Prabhavalkar as Chimanrao later became a film star while Sudha Chopra and TP Jain were producers. DD's first producer Yakub Sayyad who joined on the very first day, devised a comedy show with Babban Prabhu which ran for a marathon number of years. He received much applause at Sunday's reunion.
