“Cases of white-collared crimes affecting economy of nation has to be considered seriously,” the judge said. The special judge also said that while murder may be committed in the heat of the moment, economic offences are committed with cool calculation.
While Deshmukh (73) was first arrested on November 2, 2021 by the Enforcement Directorate in a related money laundering case, he was arrested from custody by the CBI on April 6 this year in its corruption case. Deshmukh is likely to move the Bombay high court against Friday’s order.
Deshmukh and Palande were not produced before the court on Friday.
