The extended rainfall led to a rise in dengue and influenza H1N1 cases; the latter saw a rise in the first two weeks of October after receding in September. The BMC recorded nearly 180 cases of dengue and 13 cases of swine flu in the first two weeks of October.
"We typically see a rise in dengue towards the end of monsoon. It was slightly heightened this year due to extended rainfall, but cases or deaths are still under control," said Dr Mangala Gomare, BMC's executive health officer. The city has registered 746 dengue cases already this year, besides seeing a significant jump in H1N1 confirmed detections from 64 cases in 2021 to 325 this year.
