After two years of lockdown solemnity in 2020-21, Maharashtra's biggest festival will be celebrated with style and fanfare, like pre-Covid times. Civic curbs on idols and large gatherings have been lifted.
But the festival landscape will be permanently altered in 2023, once BMC implements the Central Pollution Control Board's ban on the plaster of Paris (POP) idols.
Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti, including Mandal representatives, met municipal commissioner I S Chahal, and deputy commissioner (zone 2) and Ganeshotsav coordinator Harshad Kale to re- quest them to permit fullscale festivities.
