CM Eknath Shinde said restoration of the quota was “a great achievement” and was brought about by the “good fortune of the new government.” Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis tweeted, “The Mahayuti government has kept its word. This is victory of the OBC community in Maharashtra.”
Fadnavis said the former MVA government had done “time-pass” on the issue and also said if they had acted on time, the quota would not have been scrapped by the apex court. “The court had initially asked for empirical data on the OBC quota issue in December 2019. Had this been provided, SC would not have scrapped the quota in 2021,” he said.
