Patna: Bihar’s new law minister Kartik Kumar of RJD allegedly skipped a court hearing in an abduction case to take oath as one of the 31 ministers inducted into the new cabinet on Tuesday, leaving CM Nitish Kumar to contend with a barrage of criticism the morning after from estranged ally BJP and the rest of the opposition.
The re-engineered coalition between JD(U), RJD, Congress and others claimed the CM was unaware of the legal tangle involving Kartik, but this did little to keep BJP at bay. “If it was a mistake, then suspend him (Kartik) or accept that you are under pressure from RJD chief Lalu Prasad and cannot do anything,” said Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi, who used to be Nitish’s deputy.
