Mumbai: A strong overnight rally in US markets, on the back of an expected hike of 75 basis points (100bps = 1 percentage point) by the US central bank, led to across-the-board buying on Dalal Street on Thursday. As a result, the sensex gained 1,041 points (almost 2%) to end at 56,858 — a near three-month high. The global rally came after the US Fed decision and its relatively hawkish statement, market players said. On the NSE, the Nifty closed at 16,930 points, up 288 points or 1.7% on the day.
