In order to control queues and check baggage delays, London-Heathrow recently announced capacity reduction, allowing only 1 lakh passengers to depart per day until September 11.
Airlines have been asked to cancel flights and stop selling tickets for summer travel. PreCovid, in 2019, Heathrow was Europe's busiest hub handling a daily average of 2.19 lakh passengers, split between arrivals and departures. Airfares on flights from India to Europe and those to the US via Europe and even the Middle East are expected to rise in the coming days, said travel agents.
From India, Air India, Vistara, BA and Virgin Atlantic operate to/fro flights to London Heathrow. Indians booked to fly to the UK or US, via the Middle East in the coming days are more likely to be hit given the huge volume of operations from the Middle East to Heathrow.
