Thus, Rajshri Productions' Uunchai was born. The first person who came to Sooraj's mind to play the protagonist was Amitabh Bachchan. "Amitji really liked the thought in the script, that we all have our Everest inside us that strengthens us each day," says Sooraj, who was elated when the actor agreed to do the film. Next on his list was Anupam Kher, who began his career with Rajshri's Saaransh almost four decades ago.

Admitting that the production house is like family, Anupam took it upon himself to get Boman Irani on board. The latter was hesitant to take up any film post a personal tragedy where he lost his best friend.
