Vladimir Guerrero Jr. sports the Blue Jays’ new City Connect jersey, set to debut in Friday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Rogers Centre. The jersey, adorned with stylized Toronto lettering reminiscent of Nathan Phillips Square, carries the message “Diversity Our Strength” on its inner neckline.

It will be bad news for some and good news for others, but those leaks that have been floating around social media for the past week were the real deal.

The Blue Jays revealed their City Connect jerseys on Thursday night: an all-black kit emblazoned with a silhouette of Toronto’s skyline and red-and-blue striping.

The jerseys are the product of a partnership between MLB and Nike to design alternate looks, for all 30 teams, that represent each city’s culture and history. The Jays will debut theirs Friday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates at the Rogers Centre.

But the official reveal was preceded by a week of speculation on social media. First, a Reddit user claiming to be from Mexico posted an image of the hat, similar to Toronto’s city flag with a blue-and-red T and a maple leaf at the base.
