Wedding Da Season Hai...
Asian Photography|November 2022
The month of November has arrived, and you can already sense a cold in the air. But if you delve a little deeper, you can sense the enthusiasm rising inside Indian houses now that wedding season has started. This month always sends out pleasant emotions to the Indian psyche, thus it's become a tradition for us here at Asian Photography to devote our November issue entirely to weddings. This month, we spoke with three experienced photographers from India and asked them to discuss their experiences with this type of photography and what keeps them interested in it. All of these photographers have had a lot of success in their area and have been around for a long time.

The Flavours of Wedding - Naman Verma

Everyone approaches what we do in a unique way. Even within a more restricted area, such as wedding photography, there are vastly various approaches to the aesthetic. Naman Verma, a well-known Wedding Photographer from Delhi, was on our list when we began approaching photographers for these interviews! So in this interview we spoke to Naman about his work, style and his process behind all the beautiful images. Excerpts:

How long have you been photographing weddings and how did you get started?

Now that I look back, I realise I was always curious and fascinated with cameras and lenses. Especially, at my home, where the culture of capturing moments existed for generations. I feel somewhere the primary interest and intent developed from there. It has been more than a decade of being part of beautiful associations and seen their love stories grow to evolving families today. It all started with my idea of experimentation of art and lens from very early on in my life.

Do you experiment with images a lot or are there a basic shots and then you improvise them?

There is no fixed format to creative pursuits. I visualise and try to bring to life concepts which can then be modified through photographic perspective. In the process even something which is considered basic, becomes a marvel.

How do you develop your chemistry with clients?

There are all kinds of people on the planet. I have found my niche with people who appreciate photography as a work of art and something which is enabling them to invest in memories they are making for a lifetime. These set of people no longer stay clients, but become close friends with stay in touch beyond professional relationships. Some of my very close friends today happened to come in my life because of photography.
