The Sigma 18-50mm F/2.8 DC DN C is a small, lightweight, APS-C standard zoom lens for mirrorless interchangeable lens (MILC) cameras. Introduced in October 2021, it is an ideal lens for most day-to-day situations, including portraits, architecture, street photography, landscapes, marriages and parties. The lens we received for this review was for the Sony E-mount.
Design & Build Quality
The Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN C lens, Sigma’s first APS-C size zoom lens for mirrorless cameras is lightweight (only 290 g) and small but is well built. The lens barrel is made with TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) which offers stable performance even in changing temperatures. The lens offers some degree of weather resistance due to the rubber ring around the lens mount that prevents water splashes / dust from entering. The lens mount is made of metal. Filter diameter is 55 mm and the lens is made in Aizu, Japan.
Key Features
Before we start, let’s take a look at what the letters DC, DN and C in the lens nomenclature mean. DC is Sigma’s way of telling us that the lens is designed for APS-C sensor cameras (DG would have been for full frame cameras); DN means the lens is designed for mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras, while the letter ‘C’ stands for Contemporary.
