These were replaced by the Series II, around two years later. However, the update was modest and aimed to rectify some perceived deficiencies of the earlier models. On the other hand, the new Z 6 Series III camera is vastly improved and is completely different under the hood compared to its predecessors. Interestingly this is also the first time the twins Z 6 and Z 7 have been separated with no equivalent Z 7 version being introduced along.

Modern cameras are complex instruments and even listing all the features will occupy several pages.

Hence, we felt we should concentrate on the new and unique features, instead of just listing out specifications that you can access anywhere.

Design & Build Quality

The Z 6III has a strong external resemblance to its predecessors and is made of magnesium with extensive dust and weather sealing. The top deck has a display to show some important shooting parameters. The camera has two control dials and the number of buttons remains unchanged. The other main change is regarding the back LCD monitor which is now fully articulating. It can be reversed for vlogging and safe storage.

Key Features

The Z 6III uses a completely new sensor. While the total number of pixels (24.3 MP) of the sensor has not changed, it now uses a 'partially stacked' BSI sensor, an industry first. This is lower in cost than a fully stacked one (as used in Z8/9) and at the same time has a much faster operation than an unstacked one. For those who like numbers, the Z8/9 has a sensor read time of 1/250 sec and the corresponding number is 1/15 sec for an unstacked one. The sensor on the Z 6III provides a happy medium, clocking at 1/60 sec.
