Heading into the weekend, no club in the top 92 could match the U's tally of eight clean sheets in the league. Goalkeeper Jack Stevens has notched six of them, but would be the first to applaud the efforts of the men in front of him.
Skipper Morrison, 35, and Bennett, 33, have both featured in every league game and give Cambridge a powerful presence in the heart of their defence. Morrison started his career with the U's and has since seen services with the likes of Leicester, Charlton, Birmingham and Reading.
Bennett began his senior career with Grimsby and has also featured for Peterborough, Norwich, Wolves and Swansea. Both players joined in January and used their higher-level experience to help keep the club in League One last term.
"They've been brilliant," Bonner told The FLP after his side picked up a valuable point from a goalless draw at Wycombe on Tuesday. "We had them at the back end of last season and they made a big difference to the team with the experience and quality they've got.
