ZICO PLAYS SAMBA BEAT!
The Football League Paper|August 18, 2024
HE might have been named after one of the greats from Brazil’s legendary 1982 World Cup team, but it’s another Samba star that Zico Asare aims to model his game on this season.

ZICO PLAYS SAMBA BEAT!

After three seasons cutting his teeth as a Non-League regular with Maidenhead and Oxford City following the end of a 12-year climb through the youth ranks at Fulham, Asare joined EFL outfit Harrogate this summer.

And the 23-year-old Londoner believes it’s not just a love for yellow shirts that the Sulphurites share with the Selecao.

They also have a penchant for attacking full backs at Wetherby Road, which he is hoping to satisfy with the inspiration of a three-time Champions League winner for Barcelona.

Contributions

“My dad loved Zico,” Asare explained about the reason behind his forename. “He’s told me all about him and I’ve seen a few clips so, I know he was an extremely good player.

“I obviously didn’t see him play but I think everybody always enjoys watching Brazil. It’s the home of world football really and they constantly produce world-class players.
