We still look back on the moment that changed everything

IT’S March 16th and Lenell John-Lewis has just given manager Adam Hinshelwood his finest moment yet as York City boss.

We still look back on the moment that changed everything

A 90th-minute strike earned the Minstermen a crucial 1-0 victory over Aldershot Town in their battle against relegation and handed under-pressure Hinshelwood a much-needed first win in the Bootham Crescent hotseat since making the step up from National League South Worthing.

The following morning, a picture of John-Lewis leading the goal celebrations was plastered on the front page of The NLP – and Hinshelwood just had to have it.

With our compliments, the Minstermen chief developed the original print and hung it up on the canteen wall at the club’s training ground. To this day, it symbolises all he has set out to achieve.

“That goal and that win, against Aldershot, with the togetherness that the players and the fans showed, was absolutely pivotal for us,” Hinshelwood revealed.

“It was such a big goal and such a big moment for us as a club and as a management staff.

“It really galvanised the squad and gave everyone belief, so the picture is still up in the training ground canteen for that reason.

“We see it up in the training ground every day and still look back on it.

“If we hadn’t scored that goal then things could have been completely different for us but it gave us so much belief and confidence as a group.”

A pivotal moment indeed as Hinshelwood and his troops have not looked back since.
