APPLE LAUNCHES BAY AREA HOUSING INNOVATION FUND TO BOOST AFFORDABLE HOUSING

This marks a significant phase in Apple’s ongoing effort to address the California housing crisis, which has seen many residents unable to afford living in the communities they grew up in.

APPLE’S $2.5 BILLION AFFORDABLE HOMES INITIATIVE

In 2019, Apple committed $2.5 billion to a comprehensive plan designed to tackle the housing crisis. With soaring costs for renters and potential homebuyers, affordable housing hasn’t kept pace with the region’s growth.

Essential community members like teachers, firefighters, first responders, and service workers are increasingly forced to leave their long-time communities due to unaffordable housing prices.

BAY AREA HOUSING INNOVATION FUND

Out of the $2.5 billion commitment, Apple allocated $150 million to a housing fund specifically for the Bay Area. Details for the first $50 million investment from this fund have now been unveiled.

Apple is collaborating with the San Francisco Housing Accelerator Fund, Sobrato Philanthropies, and Destination: Home— organizations experienced in affordable housing development—to launch the Bay Area Housing Innovation Fund.

This initiative will provide targeted, favorable loans to advance affordable housing projects.

With an initial $50 million investment, the fund will support four projects in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, creating over 400 homes within the next two years. The scheme will utilize proven methods to overcome common barriers in affordable housing development.
