Seaside Sins & Scoundrels

Six years after watching him pack up his Caribbean life and bid farewell to stunning Saint Marie to declare his undying love for his girlfriend, DI Humphrey Goodman is back.

The slightly awkward but rather brilliant officer is now getting his teeth stuck into solving all manner of capers in not-so-sleepy Shipton Abbott in Devon, with his fiancée Martha by his side.

Kris Marshall has resumed his role for six special episodes of Beyond Paradise on ITV, and says that returning to the character was a joy.

"It's like slipping on an old pair of slippers," Kris says. "He's a comfortable, lovely old friend - it's just delightful to play him again.

"He left Saint Marie to join the Metropolitan Police so he could be with his girlfriend, Martha. I think both of them found the pace of life in London and with the Met a bit daunting, a little too chaotic and crazy. I think he prefers a more bucolic lifestyle, rather than the gritty backdrop of policing in London."

Kris (49) joined the hugely popular Death In Paradise following the murder of his character's predecessor DI Richard Poole (played by Ben Miller), and remained on Saint Marie until midway through the sixth series in 2017. For even die-hard fans of the show, the announcement of Humphrey's return to our screens was a very welcome surprise.
