She once described herself as "all talent and no looks" and for a woman trying to make her way in Hollywood during the golden age of cinema, that could have been a problem.
But Dame Angela Lansbury rose above all of that to become one of the most beloved and successful actors of her generation.
The star, most well known for her role as mystery novelist Jessica Fletcher on the hit TV show Murder, She Wrote, died on October 11, just five days shy of her 97th birthday.
Born in London in 1925, Angela was 15 when her family moved to New York to escape the Second World War.
