Taking a sip of my favourite drink, a 1972 porter, I crossed another pub off the list.

‘What number are we on?’ my husband Phil, 75, asked.

‘That was the 200th,’ I grinned, double-checking.

Our hobby isn’t what you could describe as common – we’re adventurous, fun people and that’s why we took on the ultimate challenge.

We made it our mission to visit as many UK Wetherspoon pubs as possible.

Some people definitely think we’re crazy, but we love it.

The pubs have such a warm and friendly atmosphere, and with the prices, who can say no?!

It all began back in 1998. On our way to Newcastle to

visit our daughter, Camilla, we were taking the scenic route through the Pennines, when all of our sudden the car began to jolt and jitter.

Deciding to stop off at Richmond, North Yorkshire, we wandered around until we could finally work out what was wrong with our car.

‘Let’s get a bite to eat somewhere,’ I suggested, as my stomach rumbled.

We came across a pub with a large sign...

Ralph Fitz Richmond. So, we decided to give it a go. We didn’t even know what

Wetherspoon’s was, let alone that it was a chain.

Sitting down in the sunny beer garden, we flipped through the menu and were blown away.

Turning to look at one another, me and Phil had the same shocked look.

‘Have you seen the price of a pint?!’ he exclaimed.
