Ready, Player Two?

The twins were always on the same wavelength, much to everyone else's confusion . . .

We were doing Christmas, and had invited our twin sons and their new wives it was nothing unusual.

The two women were very different.

All six of us would be holed up in the house for five days.

The forecast was for snow a lot of snow.

“Melanie!” Amber cried when opened the door.

| ushered her and Ryan inside out of the cold.

“It is great to be here!” She hugged me as Ryan edged past with their bags.

Amber was tall, freckled and athletic, a netball star in her university days and totally fearless.

She looked a person in the eye, which was a good trait for a PE teacher.

Fifteen minutes later Adam arrived with June.

Adam hurried in with the bags as Ryan had, while June apologised three times for being late.

June was lovely a paralegal with a sharp mind, but a little timid.

June was a petite woman, with huge eyes and lashes that seemed to waft in the breeze.

Amber strode out of the kitchen, holding a huge mug of coffee.

“June! Adam!” she said in her loud voice. It’s a full house!”

Henry and were trepidatious.

Our boys are identical twins, and they get on as twins almost always do.

The boys were already exchanging news in their unique way, using sentences that to other people contained gaping holes, but which to Adam and Ryan were logical.

“You know that place we went that time?” heard Adam Say as they sloped off towards the kitchen, their shoulders bumping against each other.

“In York?” Ryan replied.

“Yeah.”

There had been no preamble, no explanation; they were on their own wavelength.

But June and Amber were chalk and cheese different educations, different characters, different interests.
