How to lower your cholesterol

Cholesterol is a fatty substance (known as a lipid) and helps make hormones, cell membranes and vitamin D. It's absolutely vital. Cholesterol is made in the liver and carried in the bloodstream in the form of lipoproteins. There are low-density lipoproteins (LDL) known as the 'bad cholesterol', because it can contribute to plaque building up in arteries and is therefore linked to heart attacks and strokes, and high-density lipoproteins (HDL), which is the 'good' stuff.
