Some might call it the Beckhams’ revenge. While King Charles was too busy to see his younger son on his return to the UK earlier this year, he made time to meet David Beckham instead.
The monarch invited the footballer to his personal home at Highgrove in Gloucestershire, where the pair swapped tips on beekeeping. The former England ace was also appointed an ambassador for the King’s Foundation to promote its work – and weeks later he was at a glitzy royal bash at St James’s Palace.
No doubt that long-desired knighthood for Becks will soon be on its way.
Yet while David and Charles enjoy a flourishing friendship, Harry’s relationship with his father lies in tatters.
And Becks’ promotion in royal ranks is even sweeter after he and wife Victoria were ditched by Harry and Meghan.
Prince Harry had known David for years – they’d met at celebrity bashes, charity functions and also socially. The laddish prince had always enjoyed joshing with Britain’s most famous footballer over a pint.
David, 49, had also come into contact with Harry when he played a prominent role bringing the 2012 Olympics to Britain and an important part in the unsuccessful 2010 bid for the football World Cup.
