Committed to losing weight in 2024? Then you may be looking desperately for something to help. I’m being asked more and more often in my consultation room, ‘What about that weight-loss jab, Doc?’ but it may not be the miracle cure you’re after.

With one in four UK adults now classed as ‘obese’, we’re heading for an avalanche of health consequences, such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease. I want to help my patients lose weight, but I won’t be reaching for my prescription pad just yet. For a start, NHS GPs can’t currently prescribe a ‘skinny jab’.
