Add some leafy loveliness with a tree whatever the style or size of your garden
CHRIS MORLEY
Put down ROOTS

Treat your garden to a tree - it brings multiple benefits, from seasonal leaf colour, flowers and fruit, to shelter for wildlife and even a shady canopy to sit below. Plus, its shapely structure gives a sense of place and permanence; a feature that stands through all weathers and changes.

But as a long-lived plant, it's important your tree suits the intended site, especially in terms of how big it can grow over 10-120 years.

Street star

Boost your home's kerb appeal with a pretty tree gracing the front garden. Slow-growing weeping pear (Pyrus salicifolia 'Pendula') works brilliantly in a small to medium space. It has a soft, airy appearance, with slender, grey-silver leaves, scented spring blossom, and tiny pear fruits that are adored by birds. Although the tree can grow large, it's easy to keep small and shapely by pruning. HxS: 6-8m.

A home for wildlife
