Growing up, I was the reticent one in the family, especially when it came to my elder brother. I loved reading, while he loved sports. We didn't spend much time together because, as far as I was concerned, we had nothing in common. One weekend, I stumbled upon a book about well-known athletes and their stories. To my surprise, it was fascinating. I had always assumed sports were only about winning matches, but the book opened my eyes to the struggles and relentless effort involved behind the scenes.
After finishing the book, I decided to talk to my brother about it. I expected him to find it odd that I had suddenly developed an interest in sports, but he was thrilled. We spent hours discussing his favourite games and players. He even started sharing his collection of sports-related books and magazines with me. That little book about athletes became the bridge that brought us closer. Now, we watch games together and have meaningful conversations about sports. Through reading, I not only learned something new but also strengthened my bond with my brother.
The Broader Impact of Reading
Reading is often seen as a simple pastime, much like watching a movie or playing a game. However, its benefits go far beyond mere entertainment. Engaging with books, whether fiction, non-fiction, or poetry, can have a profound impact on our lives, reshaping our perspectives and enhancing our abilities.
