Want to spend less money? Then we could do worse than look to our grandparents for inspiration, but with the help of modern technology. Reducing our food waste is a great way to save, and it has the advantage of lowering our impact on the environment.

The average UK family could save £1,000 per year by not throwing so much food away, says the campaign group Love Food Hate Waste. You can find advice on its website atlovefoodhatewaste.com, but there are also easy-to-use smartphone apps that can help.
